CVT is slated but I prefer it, why have an auto that you can feel change gear?
Have you driven a modern Subaru? They drive like nothing else you ever experienced but the interior and exterior build quality is far from Volvo.
I have a 2015 V60 and I prefer the interior in that over the later ones, it feels better put together

My previous car was a 2016 diesel Outback SE Premium Lineartronic which I got as a one year old ex Subaru management car. I ran it until September last year putting 44,000 miles on it without any issues, when I traded it in for a 2018 V90 Cross Country. I did think long and hard about getting another Outback but fancied a change, I also carry sea kayaks on my car and with a rotator cuff injury the extra 10cm of lift for the Outback was off putting. If the Levorg came with roof rails I probably would have considered that as an option.

The Outback was a great car with a lot of toys included as standard, they are also not that common which I quite like. I haven't really had a chance to use the V90 in 4WD mode where the Subaru obviously was excellent although given the forecast that might come later this week! I have a very steep drive and not having to clear the snow off it was a key test.

Not as premium as Volvo but certainly a very good car, new model out just last year so outgoing models massively discounted, which may be reflected in used values.

Cheers, as long as it’s comfy and reliable. I’ve had my 60 more than four years and I’ve never used it on snow yet I’m sad to say

They truly are a left field choice but I love them, remember the old man test driving an impreza turbo when they first came out and it was bonkers. Have had a soft spot for them ever since, would love a Brat to tinker with. Good luck with the hunting

I doubt that, sadly - shortage of supply and a very loyal user base keeps values up. I couldn't find a good Outback when we last changed, so stuck with Volvo.

I've got CVT on an Audi, love it. Gotta keep up with an oil change every 38k but I never hear of any problems with modern units. God, lexus use them and I doubt they would if they weren't reliable.

CVTs are a great idea, if you drive in Japan you have a proper CVT, alas everywhere else the CVT has been adapted to suit the driving feel with the loss of the efficiency. I haven't driven a Subaru but my guess is that the CVT experience will be completely different to an Audi. Audi only implemented the CVT for 6months before customers complained and they introduced shift points and engine revs...which loses the efficiency gains. It's basically a money maker for them - hey this is CVT, its better for efficiency but it is actually no more efficient than a Stepped AT- unless running the NEDC efficiency test.

So long as you don't do any towing CVT should last a long time.

Current Forester e-Boxer CVT is rated to 1870 kg towing weight - I think it has been a while since this may have been an issue.

I hope that’s the case, are you sure this vehicle is actually a CVT? Toyota did a similar thing when they launched the Prius and there hybrid tech, calling it an E-CVT when in reality it doesn’t share any components from a CVT and is more like a stepped AT.

A friend of ours has a 63 plate Forrester with the diesel engine in it. She's had it about 5 years and had no issues whatsoever although she only does about 10k p/a. From what she says it's very economical too. Looks a well designed, practical car.

However do you occasionally see the diesels for sale as "spares repairs" with engine issues... I don't think the even make diesels now.
