So I had a visit from Peter of www.quickandbig.com and he bought me a potential younger sibling to my big green goddess:

I gave her the once over noting that the alloys can do with a refurb and that the drivers side mirror indicator repeater was cracked .. but otherwise for a 15 year old car she's pretty sweet ...

But one press of the start button and I was hooked the burble of that engine only surpassed when you mash the load pedal and enter Excelsior levels of Warp Drive!

So now I own a sister car to my Green Goddess this one like all younger sisters seems to be a real sporty type and loaded with gadgets too!

Anyway I still love my Goddess of a 960; but, equally Bertha my S80 is another big girl and just as lovely as the Goddess just in a more visceral V8 kinda way

I have always fancied one but for the engine rather than the car.

It looks a nice example and well worth keeping

Thanks I really love my 960 but I have to say she seems tiny compared to the s80... I can't believe how big it feels to drive, so wide compared to my Goddess.

Bertha has a big booty.. but the sound of that V8.. oh boy oh boy when you go you really know it and it is glorious.

That Yamaha built V8 is rumoured to be the same engine as Fords SHO V8 in the USA despite denials from all concerned that they're related. Lovely engine and sound really nice with a sporty exhaust on :

Enjoy!

PS - i have one on my "lottery list", just got to win that lottery first!

It really didn't cost lottery money at all but I suspect my use of the loud pedal will mean a little more on Fuel but again Smiles per Gallon is high and the decibels per litre well worth it

Yamaha blocks and heads are always pretty special, proper engineering-led design and build. Had several of them on various Toyotas, usually plenty of tuning potential. Also present in the Ford Puma.

Also, as a racing motorcycle fan, with a son who plays Yamaha keyboards & pianos, it's kind of cool how much they pop up in my life. Dad even had a Yamaha 50cc moped for most of the 70s and 80s.

Default Fat Slag Down life as we know it saved by 960!

Well it's only Wednesday and I feel like I've done at least 2 weeks woes in the last three days!

Bertha my newest addition reached 4 weeks with me on Tuesday so since her MOT was due in a month on Monday I took her to my local garage for the MOT ..expecting nothing more than maybe a blub I missed needing replacing or some bushing or rubber grommit that wanted a refresh I sat for 45 mins watching the MOT through the glass window of the monkey cage.

Then the dreaded white failure sheet arrived with the V8's fatal flaw exposed...
a rotten front subframe!

What cries my mechanic never had that on a Volvo before... seems however it's a common problem on V8s especially in the US where there are more of them.

Phone up Andy at Norfolk Volvo Spares and Repair in Swaffham

replacement subframe: £1226 plus vat - unique to the V8 so no unicorn pooh on ebay cheaper!

Okay phone Chris at QuickandBig.com; who supplied Bertha just before xmas; no issues repairs at Swaffham will be paid for by him no problem

Great okay 960 is go for next few weeks whilst subframe comes from Sweden and gets fitted.

Today Wednesday first session of chemotherapy decide to get ambulance since will be too knackered to driver. Ambulance arrives late then blows a tyre on the A14 just before the M11 late for appointment arrive in second Ambulance that rescues me from side of A14 okay here I am.

Have my chemo drip 4 hours later leave clutching a Big Bag of Pills and Potions, Rubber Gloves and plastic Shot Glasses .. can't touch the chemo tablets they can burn your skin!

Arrive home in Ambulance number three de-coat, take of my shoes and wander into kitchen to make a late lunch...

Experience first hand extreme pins and needles from cold tiles .. first side-effects box now checked. Hope to avoid the Sickness, Explosive Pooh and or Constipation.. oh what fun!

960 my useable fat slag looks good, meanwhile Bertha my S80 sits awaiting new shiny parts ... Fat Slag Down but not lost!

Roll on the 8 hours blood transfusion trip tomorrow.. think I will check the Ambulances tyres before we start

You have a fantastic pair of cars and I like reading this thread! Great to see you are getting the vehicles all up to standard!

I hope your cancer ops and various other treatments go well abs that you are very soon able to get up and about without incident!
