80 one
I must admit my guard stays in the down position mostly... as my thinking is it will stop anything from the boot area entering the passenger's compartment and hitting the kids if anything were to happen.

As an update to this, my second original gas strut failed as well a couple of weeks ago and so I now have a pair of these new cheap ones fitted and holding the guard up fine even on some very bumpy roads.

After reading this I have purchased the same gas shocks from the link you posted. I've been meaning to change mine for a while now so will be interesting to see how these ones do. 👍

I looked at these but in the end I bought mine from the dealer. they weren't expensive and they are the correct colour too.

I purchased a set of struts a few years back - cost £60 for the pair. They failed around 18 months after fitting. Having stumbled across this thread I purchased a set of these cheap struts for £3.85 inc postage from e-bay.
Fitting was simple and they hold the guard up a treat. Will see how long they last, but in all honesty, if they too fail after 12 months I won't grumble given how cheap they are.

Can you check please that both your new ones do definitely say 80N on them and that you haven't been sent the less powerful 60N version?

Mine also dropped sometimes going over speed bumps in France. I've cured it by looping an old large 'O' ring ( from the oil filter canister suitably cleaned) between the guard and the support. This gives it enough return if it tries to bounce down but is very easily removed when you need the guard down.
