It's only the lenses are clear; the bulb inside is still orange (with mine anyway) so you still have orange lights at the side.

Once it's properly dark I think they are actually brighter than with the orange reflector/white bulb set up...

Each to their own!

Interesting....I though dedicated side marker lights on any vehicle in the UK had to show amber?

Yep, they have to be clear by law. Any garage that says otherwise is wrong or just doing you a favour by letting the car pass. I wanted to put LEDs in my side lights but volvo said they were too bright and would fail an MOT with them. Police don't like them either.

I do however have LEDs in the number plate lights but maybe they have different rules?

Thanks Alex - I thought that's what you meant - didn't like to point it out!

Number plate lights may well be different - they are to illuminate something else, whereas side markers are just positioning lights.

Default Smoked or Clear

I detest orange plastic on any part of my cars I just think they look old and it's one of the first things I would try and change. I went for smoked with orange LED's but anything would look better than ORANGE, as long as you display an orange light then it's doing it's job. I have a bit of ocd and IMO they just look wrong

They proberly put them on there for the American market a lot of Yankee cars have them fitted timmy, I like you can't see the point in having them.
