Hi,

I bought a pair of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cabinet-D...-/201310256821 for my floppy dog guard in my V70.

Work ok. Think could have gone for stronger, it might flop down on a bumpy road.

Also wanted to say that I popped the old struts off the ball joints on the guard after removing the little clips and popped the eBay ones straight on. No unscrewing or anything.

I think most of these kitchen cupboard ones don't have the same force. The ones I got from the link in this thread hold the guard up, but the slightest bump and it swings down... mind you I no longer have the need for the guard as we had to have our GSD put down in September

It still seems strange that these struts work for some people and not others. Mine were the first ones fitted and are still working fine. Are there perhaps two different models of dog guards, with one type heavier than the other?

My original link is no longer active, so here are two new ones who appear to be selling the exact same thing -

160mm Gas Strut

160mm Gas Strut

You will need the 80N version. One link lets you choose 80N, the other shows 80N in the picture but doesn't actually state that in the details.

In the three and a half years since I fitted these, my dog guard has dropped down three times and two of those were at exactly the same dip in a road. So, they aren't perfect, but they are good enough for me. For others who haven't had such good success with them, it could be related to me having 4c suspension, or perhaps just variable quality of the new struts.

My guard only ever gets put up when then back seats are down trips to the dump - rest of the time the doggy boot divider is attached.

Hi all,

New 2006 XC70 owner (well owned it since just before Xmas 2021). I replaced the dog guard gas struts with these.

https://www.sgs-engineering.com/nl50...gas-strut-235n

At £15.59 not as cheap as the ebay ones in OP but they were very easy to fit, good quality, 235nm and have 2 year guarantee. Dog guard feels very stable when up.

I have no connection to SGS, just a satisfied customer.

Hi all. Just got some new struts from SGS Engineering. My XC70 is a 2008 and the existing struts have no clips. Can someone please tell me how to remove them, especially the ball joints as the SGS ones will only fit onto the ball and socket joint.

Hi,

Can you explain what your fix was in case it helps others?

I thought with the Volvo ones you unclip the little round metal bit at the end and then that lets you pull them off the ball on the guard.

Hi LenV! Happy New Year !
I read your post about the gas struts. I have the same problem. Could you explain how you removed the struts - mine are the same as yours, no cable holders.
Thank you in advance, greetings!
