Default XC90 to V70 336mm Brake upgrade

Hi folks,

I'm just in the process of doing the XC90 336mm brake upgrade to my D5 V70.

Does anyone know whether the 336mm XC90 'upgrade' will fit with 17" Amalthea rims?

Don't want to go down the realms of having to buy some new rims just yet as just put new rubber on my 17's!

Thanks in advance!

Jay

Some pics here should help (if I'm thinking of the correct wheel!):

Iirc the awd R runs with 335mm discs but have brenbo calipers. The only 17" Volvo wheel which will fit over these calipers are Pegasus. I don't know how xc 90 and brembo compare for size.
Cheers Bob

Thanks CricketyJimin!

Very useful, especially as he has the same wheels as me!

I just haven't been able to ascertain whether there are any spacers involved or whether the wheels will bolt straight on with no clearance issues.

Guess there's only one way to find out!

Many thanks!

Don’t know if Amalthea will fit.
Tethys and Orpheus do, neptunes also.

Hi there CJL

Yes I did.

I wasn't happy with the clearance between the caliper and the inner edge of the rim. Although someone else has fitted this Amalthea / XC90 combination.

I got some custom hub adaptors made to allow me to fit 18" Alloys from a...........Mk3 Ford Mondeo! They have the same stud pattern as Volvo (5 x108) and because the wheel ford offset was different, the hub adaptors needed to be 15mm wide to put the wheel within the right place in the wheel arch. The volvo hub is also 65.1mm where as the ford alloys are 63.4mm so this was also built into the custom adapters.

So, after sourcing 15mm longer wheel bolts and getting some shoulder adapters (as ford use nuts and volvo use bolts) I ended up with this!

Thanks everyone.

I've been planning on doing this for some time, but my original 316mm front brakes just will not wear out!

336mm discs for the XC90 are 30mm wide, but i've seen there is a 28mm wide one which is the same as the 316. These are the parts i came up with...

31499996 336mm x 28 discs for V70
31200229 pads
8603758 336mm caliper carriers x 2
30741260 M14 x 40 caliper carrier nut x 4
30681691 right backing plate/splash guard
30681690 left backing plate/splash guard

Then i read about clearance because I've got Balder 17s as winter wheels. It does look like there will be enough room though.

I'm 99% certain the M14 bolt is 55mm
