Could be the diodes gone or regulator and brushes in the alternator. If you have a multimeter check to see if it's still charging. A multimeter is a handy thing to have and you don't need an expensive one.

Charged battery overnight. The big battery is 18 months old it's a Bosch AGM. Turned ignition on and
Now reading 12.2v. no codes on a basic reader given .
Started car no warning lights appeared but voltage dropped to 11.2v!
Time for an alternator? Any other checks before I buy one? Regards

Personally I'd wait to see if the warning re-appeared before replacing anything else

Just started the car all bells and whistles on including headlights as it's -1oC out there!
Within 2 mins another message appears on dash "stop/ start requires service and voltage in system down to 11.1 v.
Looking into "my car" reason for message in driver support is charging!

Put a multi meter on the battery with the engine running to check the alternator output.

12.2 volts is not fully charged and will effect the stop start system.

I put a Bosch S5 battery on my v60 PE two years ago, and suspect it has been behind at least some of the electrical gremlins I've seen (car giving spurious error codes, canbus locking out). Think they are not actually that great a battery nowadays - I got mine from Eurocarparts btw.

It wasn't holding a charge, worried was the alternator or battery management system, but since replacing with new genuine Volvo one seems much happier.

Mine is a Bosch AGM type and only 18 months old. Anyhow after changing the alternator all fine until " engine service light came on and went into limp mode"
The RAC man plugged in and wiped many codes! and about 3 mentioning (alternator) Since then all ok fingers crossed and the new alternator doing what it should. Having said that since I have had the car on many occasions a message saying ( window sensors blocked) has shown from time to time but gone away on its own!

I also regularly have the “Window sensors blocked” message and it can disable the Active High Beam. As you say it goes away on its own.

I have checked the screen and the section behind the mirror is misted up.

Must be the atmosphere in Notts!
