Replacement Remote and key
I've only got one remote and key for my 2004 V40 and am looking for a new replacement. The one remote I've got has the part number 30638484. I've located a new 30662327 at a reasonable price. It looks the same and works on the same frequency and am wondering if it will work. I appreciate that my vehicle will need to be programmed by a dealer for the new remote. Would the replacement key need to be programmed by the dealer as well? Any help would be welcome

Remote and key needs programming by a dealer or an independent who has paid the licence fee for VIDA. Dealers will only programme items they have supplied.

The Key Integrated Remote has a couple of part numbers some relate to different frequency ranges in different markets, which you have checked, and I think they revised the part number as Volvo love to do that every now and then.
It's made of 3 parts, the Key blade is a simple metal part and can be replaced by knocking out a tiny roll pin. The key blade is fairly cheap at up to about £20 and I think it can also be supplied by car key cutters these days. From Volvo its up to about £20. Part 2 is a tiny glass encased RFID chip which lives in the remote and ties into the cars immobiliser system. Part 3 is the remote section allows you to do all the button pushing etc... Any new key set comes with a special code that allows the car to have the keys info added to it, and as said before it requires connection to the main dealer system. When a key is programmed the main Volvo computer is updated in Sweden with the details of the key and car combination. |
