Default Which Timing Belt Kit?

2003 V40 1.8 Petrol, B4184S2 Engine

Hi all, I'm about to have the timing belt, tensioner pulley, guide pulley, water pump and VVT pulley replaced on my newly acquired V40 (56,000miles, belt changed 2012 @45,000 miles).

My question is, which timing belt kit is correct for the car? There are several options available on Skandix:
- Part No 30758260 - specifies it is compatible with engine numbers 'up to 1266195'
- Part No 30758261 - specifies it is compatible with engine numbers 'from 1266196'

Can anyone shed some light on what these engine numbers mean and how best to determine what kit to purchase?

Thanks for your help.

Those numbers are the actual number for a specific engine. The engine number should be in your registration document and it is engraved on the rear of the block - under the exhaust manifold close to the water pump. Difficult to see with the engine in the car.

B4184S2 is the type of engine fitted and 1266194 is the actual engine within the production run for that type of engine.

Based on the information you've given, it would appear that Part No 30758260 is the earlier type of tensioner & belt, & Part No 30758261 is the later one. My V40 1.8 B4184S2 is a year 2000 & my engine number (as on V5 doc)starts B4182169*** . I know that mine uses Part No 30758261.

As the car hasn't been used much since the last belt change,.. If you remove the top timing belt cover, the part numbers may still be visible on the belt & you may be able to cross reference them if it's a different make?

It's also commonly said that .. original volvo water pumps can last the lifetime of the car ? So give it some thought before changing it, but if it's been swapped at some point for an aftermarket one, then swapping it back to a volvo OE part would be a good thing ?
