Driving with ERAD fault
Hello,
I think our XC90 T8 has developed the dreaded ERAD fault. The issue is the local Volvo dealer can’t look at it for a couple of weeks as the master technician is off ATM. Can I still drive it , will it cause more damage or possibly break down? Thanks |

Is it under warranty? What are the symptoms (it can fail in different ways....)

Cheers,
It's a 16 plate but has a after market warranty from Motoreasy, hopefully it will be mostly covered by that.. Symptoms are:- A clonk from the rear its not keen on engageing the electric motor if in electric uphill can be a struggle until petrol engine kicks which can be sudden and a high revs |

Importantly, a new erad is 9k. A repair of the gears/clutch pack to the new design is 3k.

My experience of Motoreasy suggests DON'T drive it. They have a clause in their Ts and Cs that says they're not liable for consequential damage if you continue to drive the car after a fault is apparent. Because you've flagged the problem to the dealer you've now 'recognised' that there's a fault. They look for any opportunity to reduce the claim (in my experience, of course)...

I was told by one of the dealer techs that it would be fine to drive until it was repaired, but they advised that I either kept the battery 'on hold' and only drove using FWD. Bit of a pain but meant I could keep using the car and have had no follow-on issues since. |
