Hi everyone, I am a recent convert to the Volvo fraternity ....
Turned on the lights and they pop-up as usual, but there is a noise that sounds like a buzzer continually emitting from around the relay area of the engine. Then when they are turned off, the n/s one continually goes up and down, whereas the o/s one does not move. I have manually wound both lights down or up after cutting the ignition, and so have removed the relay. This enables them to be used, without the 'winking' problem. But i still get the buzzing noise when the headlights are lit. Can anyone shed some light on this ?? Please! |

I do not have a definitive answer but here are some things I have found with mine!
Mis-matching (or non genuine) day running lights can cause problems with the overall operation of the lights. So can the switch on the bonnet catch - but as your lights work this seems unlikely. I too had the problem with winking lights and having emptied a whole can of contact cleaner over the headlight connetections at the front of each wing, thankfully have hade no other problems with them. Equally at around the same time I replaced the alternator/battery and suspect that amount of 'power' may have had something to do with it. I have also had several reports of people having poor positive connections on the alternator - although not directly related to your problem, may be worth checking at the same time. The noise coming from the relays could be due to a faulty relay/poor connection - again contact cleaner may work miracles. Hope the aboev helps. Regards Chris |

Hi!
In addition to what Chris has just listed (Hi Chris!!!Long time no speak!!!) I found that it was the relay (the tall one in the compartment!) that was at fault. Getting ones from scrappies can result in getting bad ones so Id go for a new one from Volvo which are about 70 quid!!!!!! Good luck! Steve (catgroom) |

This problem occurred in my 480 Celebration when the day running lights were incorrectly fitted into their terminals. Also - check that you are using the right voltage for day running lights - they must be from Volvo as they vary from the norm - Rob W.

Probably wattage actually...but then that's inherantly tied to resistance...pah
![]() I spent ages trying to work out why a 480s headlights wouldn't pop up once...then I accidentally leaned on the bonnet switch and up they came...oops...silly me! cheers James |
