Default 340 1.4 Engine Trouble

Hello
Hope you can help
340 1.4 1990 weber carb
The car starts and runs fine
If i stop say to fill up or go to shops when i restart it struggles have to keep revs up , then every time i have to stop lights, junction it stalls, does this for 5 or 10 minutes then fine.
Changed the air filter , checked the idle solenoid clicks both on and off the car, about to change spark plugs any other ideas.
Cheers
Mark

hold the air filter housing in 1 hand and wiggle. if there is *any* movement indipendant of hte engine, then the carb bolts are loose. take the air filter housing off, and tighten anythign you can see. test again, and it should be tight, and your problems should be solved. if not, cruise onto volvo300mania.com and we'll sort yer problem out

Even if you hear the idle solenoid clicking, the idle jet solenoid has a habit of wearing a ridge in the end of the plunger causing it to stick in the jet. Try filing the end smooth. They run very hot on the carb which does not help and can loose magnetic strength when hot.

In the dark recesses of my brain I seem to recall there was once a problem with the air intake on the family 340’s on one occasion the flexible hose below the thermostatic air valve was split and another occasion the fault was the thermostatic air valve it self was sticking.
