I have two Alloy Sets, both Amalthea 17", one with Viking Snow Tech II Winter tyres and the other with Bridgestone Summer tyres.

If you just have the tyres it normally costs about £1 per inch plus VAT to swap the tyres, so let's say £78 in Spring and £788 in Autumn. So rather than paying £158 a year, so I invested in an additional Alloy set and changed the wheels myself, twice yearly.

I travel out to Austria for Skiing where you have to have at least 4mm of Winter haut tyre tread to be legal. France they don't care so much, but in Haute Savoie (French Alps), snow chains must be carried.

I've also refurbed them over the last ten years and the summer set may need tidying again as I don't think refurbs keep their looks as well? Paint chips more than scrapes, unless I've been going to the wrong refurb centre?

The 225/45 ZR 17 tyres are lowish profile and put the alloy edges uncomfortably close to the kerb

I think trade they were £45 an alloy refurb, but private £65 with the obligatory 20% VAT,... when are they going to reduce that back down again?

i have considered a winter and summer set, not that bothered how they look if i have nicer alloys for the summer

its finding 2nd hand nice alloys that fit thats the problem
