V50 load cover problem
I have a '08 Volvo V50, and one of the plastic ends on the outside edge of the cover, that secures it when pulled across has broken. After numerous phone calls including Volvo UK the only way to replace this '50p' piece of plastic is to buy a new load cover for £183-94+vat. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Adrian

There's always plenty for sale on eBay, why not take a look?

I have much the same problem...
I bought a used V50 (58-plate) and one of the lugs that retains the parcel shelf (nearside) has sheared off - which is very irritating as the damn thing won't stay closed without it. The only new part I really need is the plastic rod (with the lugs at each end) that inserts through the channel in the end of load cover. Everything else is fine, including the load cover itself, the casing and the retracting mechanism. Upwards of £180 for an entire new unit is ridiculous when all I need is this ONE part...! If I can't get such a thing then I guess the fix will involve something like a long screw inserted down the long axis of the end rod, and left slightly proud with a 1cm length of narrow plastic tubing around it to effectively create a "new" lug where the old one has snapped off. Seems like a bit of a design flaw to me but I can't Imagine Volvo being all that interested in doing anything about it or even contemplating it as a warranty issue (!). Ho hum... If anyone *is* aware of such a part being available separately, I'd be very, very greatful for any info...! Last edited by Nitrous; Feb 9th, 2011 at 11:00. |
