Electric windows
Can I run a jumper (with a in line fuse of course ) from anywhere in the fuse box to by-pass the curcuit for the electric windows so that they can be operated when the ignition is off?

RE: Electric windows
I can sympathise as my V40 is the same and I'm always leaving a window open and then have to put the key back in.
If you are that uptight about it you will have to study the wiring diagram and cut the feed to the relay,or remove a fuse, and reconnect another direct feed. If you have'nt got a Haynes book (which all owners should have),then I'll dig mine out and have a look. |

RE: Electric windows
The wiring of electric windows through the ignition is a deliberate safety feature. I remember that some years ago there were a couple of nasty accidents where children playing with electric windows in a parked car managed to shut their necks into the window and were strangled to death.
Some makes of car, I believe, now incorporate a pressure switch that reverses the window if it encounters an obstruction. Volvo choose to wire widows through the ignition to prevent them being operated when the car is not in use. If you have no children and wish to adapt your car, that is up to you, but if you ever sell it in the future, for safety's sake please make sure you remove your modification. |
