Default Sensus display and fingerprints

A few days ago, I sat in the rear of the new XC90 and what struck me was that the center display showed
numerous fingerprints. I would like to know how this is perceived by people who actually drive it, perhaps it
looks different from the drivers or the front passengers seat. What I saw was a display without any film on it,
the dealers opinion was that these things affect the view in a negative sense. Perhaps this is so, but if a film
can make fingerprints less visible (or protect from scratches), it could be useful.
Contrary to (most) tablets, the display showed fingerprints prominently when it was on, not only when it was off.

One does not need to touch the screen.
There are inferred beams that sense your finger.
You can operate by wearing gloves.
No need to touch with a grease finger.

I have placed a film on it which made it less shining and now it shows much less fingerprints and looks in my opinion better

I understand that, but I think it must be very difficult to get close enough with your
finger for it to be detected while not touching the screen, the distance between
the grid and the surface of the screen is probably very small.
I was hoping that a film could bring a solution and apparently it does

When I placed my order I had accepted that I would need a lot of screen wipes for both the screen and the glossy black trim parts in the car, as these will be a magnet for finger prints and will only look good when clean. In the scheme of things, if this is all I will need to worry about in the car I will be very happy.

Did you use the Volvo one that comes with the car or a 3rd party one?

I'll defo use a screen protector and not just because of the fingerprints. It seems that the screen isn't the Gorilla glass (or equivalent) that we're used to on phones and tablets. The screen on the XC90 I test drove had a scratched screen.

Would also be interested to know what screen protector you used. I have plenty of finger marks on my screen, but I guess this is just par for the course with a touch screen and assume it no different to other manufacturers with touch screens (although I appreciate the Volvo screen is bigger and bolder than most at present!). I just use the provided cloth to give it a regular wipe, and a wipe with a microfibre as part of my weekly wash routine. I think I have more of an issue with dust specs on the gloss black plastic surrounding the screen!

Tip: incase anyone isn't aware, you can wipe the screen when it switched on without it registering anything by holding the home button for a second or two, until the screen goes blank (other than the climate setting at the bottom). Just press the home button again to re-activate.

I meant to say in my last post, re. scratched screen, ours actually had a little bubble defect in the middle, about 3mm across, slightly raised with what looked like a pin prick whole in the middle. I pointed it out to the my dealer when I look the car in for mudflats + airbag warning investigation and they swapped it out for me that day. Was surprised they had a replacement in stock, but great service.

That is what you want as you can live with a certain number of issues if the service is good.

you could just let your fingernail rest on the screen if it is long enough
