He's not charging for the rust so therefore it's rust free.

Also there can't be any rust in a hole - the fact there's no metal there is irrelevant, there's no rust in it so again, it's rust free.

Yes, these sound like sarcastic responses but many moons ago had these responses when viewing an absolute basket-case of a car - i later found out the seller had a reputation for using these excuses to sell rust buckets.

Unfortunately, technically they're true.

Sorry to hear you've had a wasted journey and thanks for sharing about it though.
