Hi all, Unfortunately i have to revive this thread since I'm battling the same problems...
I own a E4 Volvo V70 185HP from 2006 with 500K kilometers on the clock. I bought the car in limpmode. According to the previous owner it has been in limpmode for many many miles since he could not resolve the issue and decided to live with it. He cleaned the DPF a couple of times but back in limpmode after a week.
I emptied the DPF (fully clogged) and of course needed a remap so i did. Chipped to 225HP and DPF+EGR removal.
The car starts runs and performs great now but there is a solid stream of blue smoke leaving the exhaust on normal everyday accelerations. But every now and then there is no visible smoke at all. How could this problem be the piston rings? It also does not smoke at WOT.
I checked the EGR and it was almost fully gummed up with wet soot. not dry at all. So that means oil is getting in the intake. This might be due to the EGR recycling exhaust gasses that are full of burnt oil already.
I noticed it smokes a lot more after i refilled the oil. The lower the oil level the less smoke.

Things i did so far:
Fresh 0W30 oil after remap
Cleaned the EGR system (manifold still untouched as of now)
Checked PCV System (all seems ok)
Checked the turbo for play and oil in the hoses (all good)
Booted the new unleased 225HP to burn of all the limpmode soot.

After a few hard pulls the exhaust clears up for a few miles but smoke always comes back.
Also my D5 smells like an old 80s food truck but this might be because i emptied the DPF. I smell burnt oil but there is a different overwhelming old diesel truck smell to it. Does anybody know if a modern diesel stinks after a DPF delete? Otherwise i might have another problem. My neighbors think I'm running on vegetable oil instead of diesel..

I own two E4 Volvo d5's with both 500K kilometers and the exact same problems. One is collecting dust atm. It drinks oil like a thirsty camel and became stuck in limpmode due to a clogged DPF. I need figure out what the problem is on one of them first. Damn these euro4 D5's are so problematic. I've never experienced any problems on the euro3.

Any input is being appreciated, if not I'm gonna update new findings on this tread for future Euro4 enthusiast. I'm not resting before i found the root cause of this problem.

EDIT. One of my D5 Volvo's is a single owner, full dealer history car that has been serviced very well. So poor maintenance does not look like a cause of this problem. I know a third E4 D5 185Hp 500k kilometer Volvo that barley uses any oil in between service intervals.

Kind regards
