S80 message engine system service required
Guys
I am a new member and this is the first time I have used this facility so please be patient. I have a S80 2007 2.4D and I really am happy with it but I have a problem with the above message which apparently is due to too much oil in the system. The garage have taken some out and reset the alarm but after approx 200 miles the warning comes on again. They tell me I probably need a new sensor, is this something I can do or do I need the garage to perform this action? Plus are they right? |

IIRC there was a recall reguarding the DPF (diesel particular filter) causing the oil level to increase, maybe the previous owner didn't take it in to get done.
EDIT: Just found this thread and looks like the same engine and oil problem. HTH Mick

They Fixed Mine This Way
My S80 D5 has done 53k miles and no problems. The the DFP / oil level software update and engine label was done in 2011 on a recall. The car has been regularly serviced.
Then last week the dreaded yellow exclamation mark came on with the "Engine Management Service Required" message. It was permanent whenever the car was started or running. Took the car to my local (and excellent) independent Volvo specialist. They ran an OBDII sweep and scratched their heads a bit at an error code which indicated something wrong with the oil level, or with the oil level sensor. It was clear that the oil level was correct, at 1/3rd below the max mark. So all they did was disconnect and reconnect the sensor, re-establish comms between the sensor and the car compuetr system and hey presto - problem solved! Been running a week now with no more messages. The lesson is if a garage wants to fit and charge you for a new oil sensor, just ask them to disconnect and reconnect the existing one first. |

ecm-5660 is the oil level code too high, and this is how you do it properly ,switch off engine on flat surface slacken oil filter housing and let it settle for 10-15 minutes then drain off oil using vacumm oil removal tool or drain from sump, until dip stick shows 3/4 of oil ,tighten oil filter housing and sump plug 34nm ,,connect to vida reset oil level ,then erase code job done.
