As title really, looking to get a tow bar added when my XC90 is in for a service. Any reason not to have one installed? From what I understand all tow bars, even when factory ordered, are fitted locally at dealers, so assume all dealers will be well versed in fitting?

Thanks

Mine was fitted at the dealers (in Orpington) when I bought my V90.

A lot of dealers sub it to a specialist, even though its largely plug and play.

Thanks for the replies. My local dealer says they can do the work whilst the car is being serviced so I’m not too worried there, it was more if there is a perceived better alternative that I should consider? Dealer said they would give me a 10% discount since I just bought a service plan which is an additional incentive.

Hi,
I've had 2 fitted by Volvo main dealers this last year for XC90's and they do a good job - just check the tow bar doesn't slightly rub the bumper when it retracts out - they had to shave a tiny bit more off the bumper than the instructions say for mine. It was all part of the price.
If I'd have known, I'd have ordered the packs that Volvo accessories have which includes mud flaps etc - and also have discounts on them.
Good luck!

The Volvo one is fantastically neat and works a treat. It integrates perfectly with the car. It costs about £1k.

There are aftermarket ones, which will not be as neat, either fixed or swan neck detachable ones. I believe the electrics integration is not quite so perfect. I have heard they are about £500.

You pays your money.......

No they don't its all done in house ..... There is only one specialist for volvo towbars and that is the Volvo Authorised Repairer having done so many they can do them fast and correctly and of course you get a decent warranty .👍

Having looked at the installation instructions would you entrust it to anyone other than Volvo, small things like broken clips etc would be replaced at Volvo and maybe just botched if none at hand elsewhere. The Volvo towbar and towing integration is excellent, expensive but I am glad I went for the genuine Volvo option and fitting.
