Default Windscreen mist issue

Ok, I know this has probably come up loads of times in the past, but here goes.

When the air conditioning is "off", it takes about a minute for the windscreen to mist up. Takes longer if the fans are switched off.

Some points to note:

- There is no coolant leaking.
- My car is a '98 S40 T4 - so no cabin filter, or pollen filter.
- The re-circ system has been disconnected due to the relay clicking when normal air folw is selected (not re-circ). This work was done at a Volvo specialist garage.

I am thinking tha latter point is to blame, but i'm not sure.

Any suggestions.....?

Hi.

Windows misting up is fairly common especialy in Winter, try switching the fans on, or when passengers in the car ban them from exhaling!!!

Could be you have a leak in the cabin somewhere causing condensation, has the car been standing for a long time and do you do mainly short journeys?

I find the same. If the air-con has been used on a fairly regular basis - and then you turn it off - then the windscreen mists very quickly.

I found that I had to leave the air-con off for several days and then it stopped occuring - drove around with the windows open a smidge and the blowers on medium.

If you have electronic climate control though - keep it on auto. The air-con doesn't just cool the air - which it won't in winter obviously, but also dehumidifies it. modern systems hardly touch fuel economy at all - unless always in use - in hot weather day.
Keeping it active also keeps it in good shape, and the system will last much much longer than if you didn't use it over winter.

I have noticed that if I leave the fans on full for a while, the windows do clear. (eventually). Will have to bare with it. Goes like F*** though. (pardon my french)

my s70 used to do it really badly

its never done it since i had the head gasket/thermostat/then engine change... i have no idea why any of the above should have made a difference tho

the aircon in the lorry i drive will steam everything up when its switched too hot, its like a kettle being boiled in the cab..... a real safety feature LOL
