Default Volvo 480 rear bumper bar desperately needed

To replace this. I'm ok with some welding but there isn't much left of this one!

Any help/leads gratefully received. Thank you.

You have my sympathy! Mine was like this back in 2012 (sold in 2015).

It was impossible to find a new one and the trouble is that even if you find a car at a specialist breakers, most were in the same state once the bumper cover was removed. Also the rot gets to the bolt areas.

I found a passable one eventually and hammerited it to within an inch of its life.

I think you'll have to go online, find who has 480 breakers and then take your tools with you if they will let you have a look yourself? Has the Volvo breakers on the A1 near Bedford got one - Lakes ?

Sadly, this is indeed the case and the experience of most of us. Granted, yours is quite a bad one but the only options are to try to find a better one (which will probably still not be great) and treat/hammerite it or else take the one you have back to whatever solid metal is left and then get welding. They were a very poor design by Volvo and deteriorated almost from day 1, so you chances of finding anything better than half-decent are negligible I'm afraid...

I tried the Lakes breakers yesterday. They said they would investigate so I'm hoping to catch up tomorrow. I'm more than happy to weld something up but I fear with this one (because of someone using expanding foam to patch it), once it goes to the sand blasters, very little if anything will return.

Good luck. Your best bet, logically, is finding one where someone replaced or repaired it, and then their car failed an MOT so went to the breakers.

(Ps it's a while since my 480, but I managed to find new, old stock front and rear clusters and an Info centre at the time, so you never know re the bumper insert!)
