We've just bought an 07 C70 D5 for my mother. It's on 115k and had bad shifting but after doing an ATF change, it's now much better. We're doing another tomorrow to get rid of any gunk that the new fluid may have dislodged. Ask Volvo how long their goodwill offer stands for and see if a ATF change helps first!

Have you tried changing the ATF. It may be a forlorn hope but compared with the costs you are expecting, it wouldn't be too much money to gamble to see if a series of oil changes would improve the operation of the box. Three gearbox "sump dumps" with a couple of hundred miles between each would change most of the fluid and then you could re-judge the situation.

Volvo xc70 2007 autobox
Hi, following applying an old excellent post on auto fluid change...transformed my box changes so much smoother...a remaining question. Does the xc70 2007 6 speed auto box have a serviceable filter?

It has one, but it's effectively unserviceable as it's buried in the bowels of the torque converter IIRC
