Sorry to hijack this, but could anyone confirm if the Volvo aero bars for an XC90 should be of two different lengths? Thanks, Rich.

I don't have any instructions with my bars, so is there any suggestion as to roughly where along the roof rails each bar should be fitted?

I generally put the front one as far forward as it will fit, and then the rear one wherever it needs to be to fit the rack or box you are fitting. Try to look at the positioning as being central over the chassis (between the wheels front to rear)and not central to the bars that so many people seem to do and end up with the weight too far rearward.

I've come across this Volvo Aero Roof Bars mentioned a few times in this forum.

Is this the aero roof bar people are referring to?

yep, thats the aero bar. very little wind noise with them, but their width for mounting items is narrow compared to the square ones which sit on top of the roof rails.

i used these fine for a wide roof box or 3 bikes - but not the 2 together.

The Thule Aero/wing bars (also sit above the rails) are also very quiet, and you can put a bike and the largest box Thule do on at the same time, but I agree all the square bars make a fair racket noise wise.

Its true they are slightly curved but bikes only sit about a degree or two from vertical, never bothered me. You can get a narrow roofbox and fit bikes beside no problem.
Hi phaedrus

Are these the V50 bars you used on the XC90? And yes, they are cheaper than the XC90. I'm thinking of going for the V50 instead.
