Gary then that's Volvo's loss and they need a lesson in basic business supply/demand and costing! You may be lucky and sell two at £550 but will almost certainly sell 10, 20 or more at £250.

At the end of the day it's just a software download and takes a few minutes and they are pricing themselves out of an already bloated market.

Can anyone set up a poll based on the interest of people in this upgrade if it was priced at £250 versus £550? You'd think that Volvo could do this basic piece of market research at least...

From the previous thread:

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...light=polestar

My dealer offered a very similar deal to Harratts, however, he did say that if I was prepared to wait, some dealers were making representations to Volvo to make the Polestar upgrade more realistically priced. I agree that where most XC90 owners would outlay £250 most including me would not at £550 for such a modest increase in performance. I have just checked with my dealer and he is still waiting on advice from Volvo.

Hi

I have put a case to Volvo to try and get the software discounted. I will keep you informed on what they say.

I see the best way to get a great deal is to get the car serviced and upgraded at the same time.
That way we can make a little on the service and upgrade the car at cost.

Hi.

I told Volvo that I have 20 people interested in the upgrade and asked for a discount. this is the reply I got.

"unfortunately, its not like any other product in as much as it's software and downloaded on demand.

we are therefore not in a position to offer any discount on the product.

but can i wish you every success with the promotion."

It was worth a try.

So to translate for the less technical amongst us...

..."We have a monopoly on this. If you want it, there is no where else to get it. So F--- off"

but probably said it in swedish...

"Vi har ett monopol på denna. Om du vill ha det, finns det ingen annanstans att få det. Så Dra åt helvete"

Isn't it more a case that Polestar charge Volvo a stated price per download, so Volvo have little room to reduce the price without Polestar reducing their price too.

Effectively it's Polestar that we should all be lobbying not Volvo. Are dealers able to go to them direct?

On the other hand...Could Volvo's reluctance to offer a discount be because they are just a middle man, collecting a commission based on every sale, with the manufacturer taking the majority?

Can we go to the manufacturer (Polestar) directly? Where are they?

SNAP!

Thats a shame as the polestar upgrade is very expensive for what it is.

In the past I've owned and run a few high performance cars (500 bhp) and could get a complete re-tune (custom ecu map) and dyno session for the amount being asked by Volvo for this upgrade.

Not sure what the warranty situation would be if you bypassed Volvo and went to Polestar directly (that is if they even would consider doing it which i doubt).
