Hey People,
Just a quick question regarding the T4... I was thinking that it would be fun to try and drop a T4 lump into a '96 440. Basic thinks for this are: 1) Like the ride in the 440 better than my other halfs fathers and her sisters V40's (the 440 is a shed loads quieter, I have been told due to softer suspension). 2) I quite like driving the 440, even with the soft suspension you can really throw it around well, far better than I was expecting. 3) Thought it would be fun to own a 200bhp 440..... The car has discs all round and stops on a dime (brakes are far better then the current engine demands), but I was wondering if better brakers should still be fitted (and if so why?) and would it be possible without cutting (bulk heads, engine maounts etc) and lots of nasty things like that to actually drop it in?. In all honesty this probably isn't going to happen, my other half would kill me and I have a Spitfire with terminal rust that is goignto set me back a few G's to get nice again, but I do like playing with cars and wondered if it would work..... Cheers people Stu |

Hi.
Whoever did that must have STACKS of spare cash!! I made inroads about putting a T4 engine into a 2T, a straight swap you would think, but Oh no, not a chance! Loads of differences and unknown variables to take into account. The engine mounts are definitely different from a 440, and the engine itself is physically larger. You would have to spend stacks more than the car is worth to do this deed. Best to just get a T4, unless you are flush enough to finance such a project. Later, Dan. |

Hey People,
Thought it would be cheaper to buy, and as I said I have a spitty in need of TLC so thats going to see a fair amount of spare cash over the next few months... Shame about the hard work involved as I would assume if done it would fly (200bhp 995kg car...) Oh well, save for the T4 / T5 when the spits done. Stu |

Just rebuilding a 460 turbo correctly , gas flowed head ,uprated boost , decent cam etc would have around 200hp ,why bother changing the engine at all ?

Yes thanks Mike.
Enjoying it immensely. I have added my K&N and also have put in the bleed device my dealer guy previously gave me for my 2T. It just feels so strong all the time now. Eggsellent at the top end as well! I will be doing a few turns on the wastegate at the weekend, so that should help spoolup and min boost level. Also going to remove the foam from the airbox, maybe it will help amplify the turbo noise if nothing else..... :-) Once the dealer has sorted my loose heat shield and roof strip clips I will be all done and ready to rumble. Later, Dan. |

I had no idea you could get that from a 440/460 turbo! Stupid of me I know with what I have got from the pit through mods - the thing is whenever I look for performance bits for the 440 I always draw a blank. Have been searching for an SS freeflow exhaust for a while now, and have had absolutely no luck - even if I can't get a free flow, an SS exhaust would be nice as mine is close to shot and I don't want another mild steel one - the car is only 1996 and I would have expected a volvo exhaust to have lasted longer than that - even the kwik fit exhaust (30quid fitted) lasted longer than that on my '78 Fiesta!
So if you have any ideas please let me know - even just a bit more grunt would be nice - having a car with enough torque to pull off in fourth is noce, but pretty useless as I don't tow that often! Dan, when you say you are taking the foam filter out I assume you are putting a free flow air filter in it's place? I would not like to see the results if something untoward got into the inlet manifold... Happy driving guys Stu |

Yup, I mean the foam from inside the actual airbox. I presume it is for deadening the induction noise a bit, but it will have the added drawback of impeding the flow of air a little too. The K&N will stay in place obviously. :-)

Soory, my mistake, mis-understood you there :)
Why would you want to deaden the induction noise? It's one of the best noises to come from the mods I did the the spitty carbs! Roll on my other half getting her lisence so I can get something with more poke to it! }> Stu |
