Default New member with S90 questions before taking the plunge

Hi folks

I'm new here.

I'm away to take the plunge and order a new S90 and wanted to hear your thoughts.

I had looked for the first time around 18 months ago but the timing was not great so I put a stop to it. Now though, it's full steam ahead.

Planning to order -

S90 D4 Momentum
Mussel Blue
Blonde
Winter pack
4 x flaps
Rubber mats in charcoal

Post delivery -

Witter fixed swan neck tow bar with 13 pin electrics and dedicated wiring kit.

I guess my questions are as follows -

Who on here tows with one? My van is 1500kg and single axle. Hoping it will be decent. Anybody with a professionally fitted non-volvo tow bar?

I'm hoping to get mpg in mixed conditions of approaching 50 driving solo - am I being too hopeful?

I don't have to worry about resale as it's a lease vehicle. I'm hoping that mussel with blonde will look handsome?

Is the volvo on call app as good as it should be? I'd use the pre-heat / defrost function lots. Any issues with it? Any issues with certain types of phones?

Are there any decent outlets for sourcing genuine but cheap mats and flaps?

Can anybody show me their S90 with flaps please?

Is there anything I should re-think?

Many thanks. I'm in love with the S90. I've had an Octavia vRS on a 15 plate and GT Passat on a 17 plate but I'm seriously looking forward to this car!

Go on Ebay and buy Chinese mudflaps for around £30 for a set of 4, every bit as good as Volvo ones and 5 mins a corner to fit, I have Chinese flaps on my XC90 and can vouch for them being a perfect fit.

Anything to rethink? Expecting 50mpg would be my first suggestion!

Don't get me wrong, on a long run my V90 returns over 50mpg but it really drops off around town and on shorter cross country journeys, more so than I expected if I'm honest.

Having said all that I am averaging 46mpg over its first 7000 miles so I can't complain too much.

2K miles in to a new V90 D4 and I see 44-46ish driving locally and 51-52 on a motorway run sticking fairly close to speed limits, including the long 50 sections we have on the M6 at the moment.

I have a witter detachable towbar dealer fitted, but only tow a little trailer.

These are the flaps I have on my V90 and they look just like the ones on the Volvo showroom but for a fraction of the price.

You will not get a cabin pre-heat on the app function on a standard Momentum. You need the quite expensive autonomous heater package for that. You can pre-start the car remotely though and you can program every start to set a fairly high cabin temperature. However, it takes a while for these efficient engines to heat up while idling with no load.

I would take the Volvo tow hitch if I were you. Is there that much saving to be made by fitting a Witter? The Volvo price includes fitting be a dealer and the VAT I believe. If the car is run through a business that is VAT registered, it is probable that the VAT could be reclaimed and 100% tax relief claimed on the capital cost as long as you towed for business.

I can vouch for the Volvo tow hitch. I have one on my V60. Nothing visible until it is deployed. That is done by a press of a button and a clip into place. Similar process when putting away. When deployed the car systems know it is there.

Thanks.

The Witter tow bar as described is £438 inc vat by my local tow bar specialist so quite a saving and I don't mind it being there, visible to all.

Yes, sorry, I should have made myself clear 're the pre heating. I meant just through the car being on. I take it, the car is locked whilst engine running? What do insurers think of this ? Can it be driven away if a window is broken?

Can seat, steering wheel, both screens all heat up on using this function?

It's a private lease. 14.5% discount from the dealers.

Thanks - good to know. High 40s sounds achievable given where I mostly drive.
