I wouldn't get hung-up on the brand of oil, just make sure it is 'compliant' and meets the spec.

There may well be a plate somewhere, I'm not sure of it's location though. I believe the quick way of determining the gearbox type is by the selector positions. The 5-speed 50-55 'box is PRND43L (unless you've got the Geartronic) and the earlier 4-speed unit is PRND32L, if I remember correctly.

Going by your information of a 2001 model, it's most likely the 50-55 'box.

I welcome a correction by a forum guru if I'm wrong!

It does have the PRND43L configuration so looks as if it is the 50-55 box

On both of my V70 auto/geartronnics there has been an id plate visible on the top of the gearbox, ther're both prefacelift though... the later years seem to have a bit more gubbins up front which might get in the way!

Have a look on the dipstick cap I am sure there is something on it about the oil to be used in the gearbox.
