Volvo V70 T5 (Ex-Police)
Sailed through the MOT this Saturday so its got a FULL ticket until 26/09/2009!!!!! 152,000 miles (mainly motorway so not a lot of wear and tear ) Ex-Cheshire Police (maintained regardless of cost) 2.3 litre 5-cylinder 20v (gives upto 39 MPG!!!) 270-290 bhp??? standard T5 V70's are 250 bhp and traffic cars like this are tweaked and it certainly feels it. When the police last serviced the car 01/05/2008 before it was decommissioned it had 4x new tyres (Goodyears), 4x brake discs & 4x brake pads fitted, the cambelt also looks new but I could'nt get confirmation it was replaced. 1 Previous owner & HPI Clear. Service history from June 2003. Dual Zone Climate Control. ABS + Electronic brake force distribution. Driver & passenger airbags. (SIPS) Side Impact Protection System. A-B post inflatable airbag curtain. (6 airbags in total) (STC) Stability & Traction Control. (WHIPS) Whiplash Protection System. Alarm + immobiliser. Onboard computer with average speed/average MPG/instantaneous MPG/xxx miles to an empty tank. Power steering. 4x electric windows. Rear child safety door locks. Remote central locking. New Kenwood CD/MP3 player. Sony Bluetooth handsfree car kit. Electric heated & adjustable mirrors. Tinted glass. 16" alloys with Goodyear Excellence tyres. Folding rear seats + folding front passenger seat back. Headlamp levelling + washers & wipers. Rear washer & wiper. Height adjustable front seats. Height & reach adjustable steering column. 5x full 3 point inertia reel seatbelts. 3x 12v power takeoffs (cig lighters in front cab/rear cab/boot). I bought this car for only one reason = to carry loads of our kit down to the Le Mans 24 endurance race and it performed superbly. In the back I had a 4 ft fridge, 28" widescreen TV, petrol generator, 6m x 3m marquee including all the covers & poles, Sky TV box + dish and 6ft stand, 4x tents, 8ft table, 2x gas bottles, Barbeque plate and stand etc, etc, etc!!! Its like Doctor Whos' tardis lol. We travelled down to Portsmouth from Leeds, West Yorkshire then from St Malo to Le Mans + a few days driving round and I did a total of 495 miles from 65 litres of fuel, thats 34MPG fully loaded!!!! Driving this car is great, I never get stuck in side junctions because everyone thinks Im a copper so they let me out lol Drive on the motorway and people just move straight out of your way Its an excellent car and I will be very, very sad to see it go but I need a large van (LPG) for my new job. Im looking for £2750 If interested either PM me or call me on 07866 624361 thanks |

Nice car but would be v surprised if it is tuned to give more power. The police tend not to (I used to own an ex-Armed Response vehicle). Do you have any evidence of this, for interest?

You dont say how old it is (i dont think)
Sorry to say but Volvo never tune any police cars, they are all standard T5 engines and i have seen that in writing from head of Volvo's SVP Good luck with the sale as it looks a clean car.

It certainly feels just as quick as my old Nissan 200sx (rolling roaded with 270hp) I have no evidence but I will try RR it if I get the chance |

I think you hit the nail on the head there, it certainly is a big mith that they are tuned up, from what i was told they didnt need tuning as they were quick enough.

When I contacted Volvo about my ex Hampshire 850 T5, they gave the following:
"In answer to your question the Volvo Police Specification has no engine modification. Our Police Spec cars are built within our Special Vehicles factory where they receive an upgraded chassis - stiffer shock absorbers, thicker anti-roll bars, solid bushing for example. We also as you correctly point out upgrade the brakes offering the largest possible and add a wiring loom to facilitate the fitting of Blue Light equipment." I've never had the chance to try another none plod 850 T5 but I really don't need more than the 225bhp indicated. It does its job very well |
