  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way

Default Is 5w/40 ok??

Anyone using 5w/40 oil in their XC90s as i have 10lts of TRIPLE QX Fully Syn Engine Oil 5W-40 A3/B4 in my garage am i thinking this will be ok to use in my 05 D5 163 thanks in advance 😉

As for the viscosity range I can't see why not in our mild climate, and if we get a drawn out roasting got summer its probably slightly better than 0w/30.

I've experimented over the years and personally find 5w/30 to be the sweet spot on the D5.

Off the top of my head I don't know if A3/B4 is suitable. The Euro4 engines use A5/B5 as thats an extended interval specification but im not so sure about the Euro3 engine, so you might want to just check your handbook for that (I think it would, but check the handbook to be sure).

I wouldn't be concerned about using it in a E3 engine, but keep to the 12k change interval, or less.
