Default No Wiring for Reversing Camera

I have a 66 plate v40, which has the slot on the boot for a reversing camera.

Took it in to Volvo a few weeks back who said the wiring loop didn't support a reversing camera so they couldn't do it.

Does that mean they really can't do it or is there a possible workaround?

As it says on the volvo web site, the car needs to have the loom prepared for a rear camera. It seems the dealer has already checked.

A very, VERY long shot, but you might just be lucky….

Try Googling AliExpress, then search ‘Volvo v40 reversing camera’. (Pic is a screenshot I took of one I found).

I fitted one from them on my Skoda (yes I know it’s not a Volvo!) which came complete with an OE-fitting insert into the loom, plus the through-car wiring. Took me about 3 hours to fit. HTH

Yeah, I thought Volvo may have just put an extra wire through the car to make it work but I guess they didn't want to / couldn't, which is a shame.

The install shows a route from the rear to the front of the car though. Does this mean it was just too much work for the garage or there is something physically stopping it work?

I thought the "loom" was just a set of wires around the car? Possibly quite mistaken at this.

Your tagline suggest you have a Momentum model. You need a Momentum Nav Plus model as a minimum for the correct loom and other required components including electronic units to be present on the vehicle. If you know exactly which parts are required, stripping and removing them from a scrapped car and refitting them to yours ought, along with the relevant programming, to enable the fitment of a parking camera.

Unless you have the time and knowledge to do that yourself, it is likely to be more cost effective to change the car.

You could fit an aftermarket camera, but it will not be integrated into the vehicle in the same way.

yes you are right, Made for YOUR particular car, each loom is an individual ,custom made for what ever extras were on the car new. If you ever need a new loom it will me made for you , not from stock. Its very unlikely any scrap car with have the loom to suit everything on your car.
