Unhappy 2.0L 20v oil coming out dipstick

I have just bought a Volvo 850 2.0L 20v, it is building up pressure in the crankcase & oil is being forced out of the dipstick holder. Could this be a blocked breather if so what do i look for, or is it some thing more serious
thank you to all those who help me out.

Hi sorry to hear about your problem, is the oil level correct when cold?, the previous owner may have overfilled.

If not with the engine running take the oil filler cap off/or take the dip stick out and see if you have whitish smoke come out, this may indicate a crankcase breather problem, if so get the PVC system serviced otherwise you may end up with a costly crankcase seal going(£700-£900 to fix)

Hope this is usefull

Ray

Getting at the flame trap is not too difficult and Volvo dropped the flame trap, so if you still have it most owners just dispose of it.

Could be blocked oil seperator, mounted on front of engine under intake manifold or some of the related hoses?

What mileage are you at?

Hope this helps.
