The Vauxhall VWW that a few folk here liked seems to have been through the eBay mill a couple of times since Steve’s post. The first time bidding got to £2,300 (reserve not met) and today it reached a bit less - £2,050 (reserve still not met).

The seller obviously thinks it is worth quite a bit more, but the market disagrees and winter is almost upon us (October this week, where has 2024 gone?). I’m still struggling to see why this would be desirable, at least until it qualifies for the free tax in 18 months time. It is hardly a classic that would impress people at a car show, or even down the pub. Two grand still seems plenty to me.

I didn’t quite get the bit about the sunroof seals. If the sunroof is stuck closed and sealed with silicone then how would one change the seals? No matter, I suppose it would be a fiddly but not impossible job to fix the hatch properly.

I’d have thought about half the asking price would be about right for a non-historic motor car like this one, but then what do I know :-).

I think the seller might be offended by an offer of £4250 at the moment Steve - but if it isn’t sold by the time the winter starts he/she might think differently.

Prices are often a bit speculative for all commodities. I have my eye on a house at the moment: it was on the market at £700,000 about 6 months ago, and now is down (in stages) to £650,000. The trouble is I think it is worth a little under £600,000; I found out from a reliable spy that the place has only had one viewing, and that has resulted in an offer of £450,000. I’m going to let the sellers fester until the nadir of the market in January, view it on a wet day when there is a storm blowing in from the North Sea, and maybe offer what I want to pay (cash, take it or leave it) and start walking away slowly. We’ll see what happens.

Maybe I’m wrong and the red 244 will sell for £8,500 in a heartbeat, but my feeling is a patient buyer might get it for what I think it is worth.

A new advert today, yet again asking for £7k, so I expected a good one, but this years MOT check, fail on OSR inner and outer sill.

https://www.carandclassic.com/l/C1786362

Picture 7 in the list appears to me the OS sill judging by front mudflap orientation, but to me that looks more of a patch repair ??

Odds the NS is almost as bad…….

Hmm £7k for a good non rusty one is bad enough, but hey……..

Cheers
Steve

People look at things in different ways Steve. I’d have thought about 3 grand would be plenty for a non-historic VWW with rust in the sills. The patch repair will probably be okay for quite a while, but one day there will be a rustberg or two underneath this one.

… but then I’m a tightwad.
