Weird, random, near-side wing-mirror tilting when off.
V90 D5AWD RDesign MY’20
My near-side wing mirror has started randomly tilting itself down when the car is parked up. Any ideas? This isn’t the auto-tilt on reverse feature. It’s not tilting as far down as that. I’ve had the feature on in the past but it isn’t helpful on my drive so it’s turned off. I’ve turned the feature on and off in the settings to see if that fixes it but no luck. I’ve tried re-saving the seat memory but no luck there either. It seems to only happen when the car’s been parked for a while. I pretty-much always reverse park so I know it’s not tilting on reverse. I’ve not seen it happen on a shopping trip but it’s happened a few times overnight or over the working day. I always use the same key and the same diver profile. I may try a factory reset but does anyone know if you lose the trip memory and tyre pressure calibration if you do this? Also, any tips/gotchas you’d like to share. Thanks, Nic |

Is the mirror glass loose by any chance, so it can't hold its position? Maybe the glue that holds the glass has started to lose its gripping properties.
I suggest touching the driver's side mirror and comparing it to the passenger side. If there's any 'play', that's likely your problem. The fix is take the glass off (be careful you don't snap any wires), apply some sort of glue/adhesive and put the glass back on, allowing time to dry. You may have to leave it parked up for a while to let it go off. RTV sealant works well... You can get it in Halfords and places like that.

I have exactly the same issue on my 2019 S60, doesn’t happen very often and only happens on one side but no idea what’s causing it.
Been tempted to take it in as the car is under warranty but it’s such a rare occurrence that I’d struggle to replicate it |

Sounds more of a power to the motor issue than the glue holding the glass.
When the adhesive starts to loosen the mirror vibrates in the casing when driving, giving a blurred view. Both door mirrors on my car have had to be re-glued. You need to find the right adhesive as the heat is transferred from the backing plate, use the wrong glue and you get a hard crusty mess. Ask me how i know.

Thanks for the tips. Really intriguing, DG97, that someone else has the same issue.
I’ve just been out and the mirror had tilted itself again – both door handles visible but not all the way down; car has been parked for 2 days. I went to the supermarket and reverse parked – mirrors didn’t adjust (this is correct behaviour as it’s turned off). Half an hour later, returned to the car and the mirrors are both in the right place. Before heading home, I compared the resistance to movement of the two sides and I think I can rule out the glue de-bonding theory as they felt pretty much the same. The indi I got the car from had contacts at Volvo service and I took an extended warrantee so I think I’ll ping him and see what he says. I’ll update here as and when. In the meantime, any other ideas welcomed. Cheers. |

Hmm.
Just did a 6hr each way trip over the weekend. Mirror was tilted down when I set off from home; repositioned it; no further problems. About half way into the return trip, I noticed that the BLIS warning on that (near) side wasn’t working correctly – it was giving false positives (e.g. when I was in lane 1 and the nearest other vehicle was >200m away) and false negatives (e.g. not seeing an articulated lorry right alongside). The weather was very wet and it was dark. It’s been mentioned elsewhere in this parish that weather and dirt can affect the performance of BLIS. The car has a mild coating of dust/dirt but isn’t dirty and it’s been wet with road spray, rain etc. so I wonder if the BLIS issue is an issue and if it’s linked to the mirror moving problem. According to posts on SwedeSpeed; software, wiring loom and/or DDM (diver’s door module (noting they’re LHD cars)) may be needed to exorcise the ghost from the mirror motors. I’ll be testing the usefulness of my after-market warrantee if this doesn’t sort itself out soon (I’m not holding my breath on either). |

Hiya,
Check the connection for the door mirror. Unlikely this is the issue but worth a quick check. Haven't seen many mirror folding issues recently, but the last one I did, I ended up replacing the power/earth cables into the door mirror as the pins where loose. Haven't heard from them since so guess this must've sold the issue. Also is the car software up to date? There is a fix for random glass tilting in a software patch at some point. If it was in a dealer recently for service this would've been done. Hope this helps! |

The software should be up to date as I pressed the indi I bought it from to do a Volvo service rather than generic. I'll check the paperwork when I get back too. |
