Default Brake pads

Hi all
I'm starting a new thread to see if anyone can help here...

I recently ended up with two sets of front disc pads (for a late 240) - a Volvo-brand one, and also a set of Mintex MGB576. I am curious about the Mintex ones because the box says 'This material must not be used on public highway'. They are denoted as M1144 pad material, and for Fast Road/Rally use.

Why is it you can't use them in normal road use? Is it that they're all about high temperature use, and aren't so great at grabbing at low speeds?

By the way the Volvo pads are on the car, I'm just wondering what to do with these Mintex ones.

I'm hoping maybe classicswede might be able to help - because he said he sold Mintex pads.

Thanks
John

They will be a fast road/light track pad so the braking isn't as good as a normal pad when cold. In theory youll find the first ne or two use of the brakes in the morning it wont brake as efficiently as a car running genuine pads. Once they have a smidge of heat in them they are fine.

Its amplified with proper race pads but on fast road pads you wont notice it enough.

They are just covering their ass in case someone uses them on the road, doesn't brake in time and blames the pad manufacturer for the pads not being warm.

All you need now is a 240 rally car to go with the pads

See, a great excuse

I'd love to find an early group B rally 244 or build one. If only I had the funds.
