Default Clean the A/C pipes?

Hello and Good Morning all!

I have my S40 for a year and a half now (love it, obviously), but one issue keeps bugging me. On mornings after lots of rain or when its very humid theres a slight smell from the A/C.

Ive ran with it on full blast for hours with the windows open to try and solve it, but it seems to work temporarily.

Has someone else had this issue?

Can anyone point me in the direction of a way to get at the air pipes which lead into the A/C unit in order to clean them?

Thanks for your time!

Above is the first thing, then get a bomb and set it of in the car following the instructions. I did mine last year and the funk has not come back, iussed a Comma aircon freshener and if your lucky you can get one very cheep by pre-ordering @ Eurocarparts, under a £5 or about £12 in Halfords.

Thanks for the replies!

Ive went and replaced the cabin filter, which wasnt as dirty as i expected, but there was a lot of dry plant material falling out when i removed it.

However it doesnt seem to have solved the issue...

Does anyone know of a thread where one has instructions on how to remove the unit the cabin filter is inside of? I have a feeling I should take a look.

Also thanks for the suggestion druid, but i do not think that wil help. I have no smell inside the cabin of the car, only from the aircon unit and only on moist days.

Your cabin filter is in the blower fan housing, you problem might, in that case be the condenser unit (i think, air drying) but i would try the bomb 'cos it kills the bacteria that causes the smell. Start simple, if you want the fan out its not hard but you took the leaves out with the old filter. What do you think is wrong.

P.S.
My car did not smell until i used the aircon

Thanks again druid!

I guess i think the problem might be a clump of leaves stuck somewhere in the pipes which have started to rot. With the anount of plant debris that fell out when i removed the filter it kind of reinforced my view on that...

If you think a bomb might solve the issue i might give that a try. Would i set it off in the A/C unit then?

OK take out the filter again and run the fan, get all the bits out and refit. The "bomb" is a one use aerosol that runs till it empty. The intake is also in the footwell and you run the fan i think with the aircon and recirculate on but full instructions are there on the can. The can blows off for a few min's, so it gets a lot in . Its not a spray like febreeze.

And then whenever you use it, make a habit of turning the aircon off five minutes from home
to dry it him out the system with the fan still running before putting the car to bed yeah yeah.

So point the vents elsewhere or just don't do it

Seems a bit drastic placing a bomb inside the car to cure a bad smell

As he walks away from the smouldering heap of twisted metal on the drive. Ah well, that's the bad smell sorted
