thanks bob, i got in touch with your man and he is going to take some pics for me. so we'll see what his is like.
typical ireland, i rang around a few towbar shops and asked if they could make one up, based on some sample pics i've pulled off the web. thinking, it must be cheaper to make one up than buy new. (new is £140odd + postage). Hah, in this country the cheapest quote i could get is €320 to make it up.. more expensive than a new, factory made, one...) the celtic tiger isnt dead yet. (i only want it to mount a decent bike rack on, not to tow a caravan) i think i might get some angle iron and a bit of 2" box section and make one up myself using bolts.. i might even buy a welder from Lidl and have a go (it'll still be cheaper than these idiots) |

It wouldnt be the fist time If I still have it I'd be willing to bring it home/ email you some pics and if you want it package it up for a couriers collection £50 would do me for that. I'll let ya know Andy |

Hi Redcar,
I hear you loud and clear on the costs claimed for some welded tubes. Like you I haven't really any intentions of towing a caravan but wanted it to fit a proper bike rack. Eventually was lucky enough to find a tow bar through this forum from a gentleman just around the corner from me and paid GBP 50 for it. Had it blasted and powder coated and subsequently fitted it myself. If you wish you can check out some photos here: http://s728.beta.photobucket.com/use...1968/Tow%20bar Alternatively I can recommend the Dutch website www.marktplaats.nl (a Dutch equivalent to Gumtree) which has proven a great source for parts for our trusted old Amazons and in fact just noticed there's a tow bar for an Amazon listed: http://www.marktplaats.nl/a/auto-ond...reviousPage=lr Brgds John |

I'm tempted to say you can have mine but I just don't know how to find time to remove it from the car. Are you in a hurry?

so, i took a leaf from Wulff below and checked out the local trade sites and pulled up 1 amazon tow bar right here in Dublin, just down the road from me..
In true Celtic Tiger optimism the ad states "It must be the only one in Ireland", i.e. its rare, so it must be valuable, lol.. €120.. or, i can get one of an escort for €20 and modify it a bit for fit. So i guess the question i have to ask myself is, is my Saturday afternoon worth more than €100? |
