Default T5 20v into 740

im yaerning for more from my 740 as my corrado race car may never make it back to the road

sooo i pondered with a NA engine mods to the B230A lump but price is a big issue on this

soooooo

i'm feeling the T5 220bhp lump as an easier option

thing is - can i use my existing box, what adapters need using etc and is there anything apart from the lump, turbo, loom, fuel tank and pumps etc that i would need?

easier just to tune a 4 cyl redblock turbo - get the same effect in the end , unless your good with a welder and programmable fuel injection .

you should read retro cars about pete cheshers 740 - easily a match for a T5.

Purely on cost grounds, it depends on where you want to end up. If you want 225bhp, tune a redblock. If you want 300, fit a chipped whiteblock (T5). If you want 400bhp, you're probably back to the redblock.

On 'kudos' grounds, I'm tied. All else being equal, I'd rather have the whiteblock (more advanced engine design, and more immediately identifiable to random people), but building a big-power redblock rather sticks up two fingers at the "Volvos sucked before the T5" mentality...and there's more to modifying a Volvo than just ending up with the 'best' car you can - it's about the attitude too.

You'll see 225bhp (and way more torque than a stock T5) from a 8v redblock with the T3, a 531 head (pre-90 740 Turbo) and a chip to support circa 1 Bar / 15psi of boost.

cheers

James
