Default T5 Performance

I wonder if anyone can help.

I have just replaced the Turbo Control Valve on my 100,000 mile 2002 S60 T5.

Boost seems to have improved greatly at part throttle openings, but there seems to be less of an improvement when accelerating hard through the gears.

Is there a calibration sequence after fitting this type of new part?

Wink Acquisition of a "new normal" data set

Whilst there are no specific calibration sequences when a control valve is changed it does result in the system needing to "re-learn" or "re-acquire" a new set of parameters created by changed data resulting from that new control valve.

There is a forcing method that can be employed to get the "normal" behaviour to update asap, but quite frankly you will do better to drive the car normally for a few days so that the system re-acquires a new "normal" based on your driving post the control valve install.

Have a look at post number 7 here:-
https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=284898

There are other methods of establishing that new normal involving hard acceleration to 30 then 40 and 50mph, followed by heavy braking after each speed reached -repeating the cycle several times and turning the engine off for 30 seconds between each repeat cycle - again as previously stated - you will do better to drive the car normally for a few days so that the system re-acquires your new "normal" based on your normal driving post the control valve install.

Thanks for that, ASt85.

I Do not think that there will be any re-learning of the Turbo Control Valve as it is just a solenoid valve, this control is written as a map in the ecu to follow boost/rpm,

Exactly

the Tcv hasn't got any learning functions

Agreed, it isn't the valve that is re-learned; the change of a TCV causes change in the performance of the engine, it is that new normal performance that changes the parameters.
