Default 850 estate: indicator not canelling after turning left

The indicator on my 850 estate (approx 150k miles) is no longer self cancelling after a left turn but is fine on right turns.

My guess is that the lug for left hand turns has broken or worn - presumably removing the indicator stalk would confirm that?

On the '97 V70 this had been a problem:~
Sometimes removing the indicator stalk- clean & grease up helps.
Remove wheel trim sections:
(Remove cable connectors & two small bolts) arm will just pull away.

If not take a close look at the plastic (clear plastic) fitting that turns with the wheel and has an eccentric that knocks the indicator on/off.

If this is broken then if can cause the problem-no need to remove the wheel,
You should see a screw holding the ring in place, the little holding tab can snap.
If it has, loosen the screw and work some superglue into the gap- hold in place until dry and then tighten the self tapper up lightly.

If the break is as above but greater than a minor break then a small over tab of metal/copper can be made and glued into place with J.B.Weld and the holding screw- some masking off may be required.
The S/Glue method has been fine to date on my car,
Regards Bob.

It may be the clock spring.

This was the problem with my V70 showing the same symptoms as you describe.
You may need to remove the steering wheel to get better access
