Default after market suspension

Ok, so the top spring mount has gone on the nearside - makes a creaking/rattling sound when changing direction or accelerating braking.

To replace it, the front suspension needs to come out so if I am doing that, I may as well replace the suspension - car has done 160 k and has original springs/shocks.

I am looking on ebay and there are quite a few aftermarket kits - has anyone fitted these so I can filter out the rubbish.

Letting us know what car you have would be a good starting point.

As ITSv4 says, we need to know what car you have, and what it is that you want from the replacement - are you looking for equivalent ride/comfort, slightly better handling, track car handling? All have pros/cons and generally the 'better' the handling, the worse the ride quality will be.

Having said all that, I have previously fitted -

* all OEM (from FRF Volvo at Swansea) new suspension to an 850R, which was a great, but expensive, investment;

* Killen (part of the Lesjofors group) lowering springs and Bilstein touring dampers on a 940 estate, which was another success giving a firmer ride with excellent damping - well matched to the iPD anti-roll bars that I'd fitted earlier.

Oops, sorry about that.
It's 1994 850 T5 estate.

It is road based car so looking for a suspension refresh so thought go for slightly lower and stiffer springs. I realise that comfort on roads will be compromised.

The photo of the two sets, around £250 seems to be a good price.

^^^^ mentions 850R suspension - I understand this is slightly lower (19mm?) and stiffer than T5, so should be OK for me ; aftermarket sets lower by 30mm, which I'm a bit vary of, due to speedbumps etc.

You're better off just going either OEM or look into the bilstein b4 or b6 kits.

Dont go and buy these cheap Ebay coilovers, you will regret it.

Default Get some proper stuff... not Chinese knock-offs

I bought a set of front and rear springs (Macpherson struts front, and with shock absorbers rear) from China (Maxpeeding.com) and had to send it back as too flimsy, too short (which would have lowered suspension by 4 to 6 inches). Internet pictures and emails to China where I was told everything would fit, when it didn't. Comparing these springs with the originals removed, you could see immediately how much heavier and thicker the original springs are. The picture on the internet doesn't reveal this.

I got Macpherson struts for the front of my V70 1999 T5 from Trust Car Parts, Seven Sisters 020 8985 2255 where you can talk to someone who knows about Volvos.

I’ve got JOM coilovers on mine… Genuinely not sure how they get positive reviews..😂 Awful ride, no damping, bouncy, I could go on. I’ve had plenty of lowered cars, my 850 came with these already fitted, but nothing prepared me for how bad these are. Trying to justify the cost of BC’s or something similar to be honest.

Rob.
