Steering on C70 t5 coupe
Having realised i was losing approx a litre of power steering fluid in 5 miles, i took my c70 to my local specialist who replaced the steering rack. When complete i drove it away only to find a day or two later that on full lock either side my tyre was rubbing on the plastic cover of the wheel arch. I have spoken to the specialists who advise me that the rack they installed must have that little extra turning capability and coupled with the size of my tyres, this sometimes was the case and there was little they could do. Should i accept this and if not any ideas how best to play it?? Thanks in advance

RE: Steering on C70 t5 coupe
I'd thought you might have got a definitive reply by now so had hesitated to comment, but I seem to recall a reference some time ago on the forum to the fact that the C70 with the 17" wheels had steering stops fitted to prevent the wheels rubbing the arches on full lock. Certainly my C70 has a much worse turning circle than my previous V70 which would suggest that there are indeed some sort of stops to restrict the lock. Since your wheels are now rubbing it would suggest to me that the stops are no longer present on your car. If the stops are an integral part of the rack, perhaps they have fitted a standard S/V rack instead of a C one? And if they aren't integral to the rack, perhaps they have taken them off when replacing the rack and forgotten to refit them?
I'm always suspicious when garage blokes say things like the rack "must have a little extra turning capability". This is usually just shorthand for them not actually knowing what they are doing and trying to fob you off with a load of old bull! |

I thought it was those plastic pads rivited on the wishbones that limited the amount of steering travel not the rack itself? Was the tracking adjusted?
