Paradoxically I actually find Eco mode a bit worse on fuel as I have to use more throttle for longer to achieve the same acceleration. In Sport I find a quick blip is more than enough to overtake or get up a sliproad.

If I want a cheap trip I take another car..
Eco mode? Which car is this?

I got 450 miles out of a tank full once which I thought was good going. Mostly motorway driving with a fair bit of stop start in there too.

Usually it's low 20's mpg round town. Easy 30's on the motorway. 7 mpg round castle Combe...

Thanks for the helpful replies

I'll try and get a better 'handle' on the fuel consumption, but realise that autos tend to suffer a bit - and winter tends to make matters worse.

If I am reasonably careful I can get 33mpg in my 03, T5, which I think is rather good and not difficult to attain. Now at 130K.

The T5 is likely to be the worst of the engine choices when driven lightly as essentially you will be driving a very inefficient low compression 5 cylinder engine with little to no blow.

So remove the egg from under your foot and enjoy the growl.... makes an infinitely nicer noise than the X-Type with a Transit engine in it (and I've owned at least two of both....)

Often joke I should hook a shell tanker on the back, V-Power too so not cheap, I guess I can’t run a heavily modified 850R and couple that with a lead foot (when the conditions allow) and expect anymore! Bloody love it!!
