I've just put a holding deposit down on a 12 plate D5 which I really liked.

Another dealer has now contacted me with a deal on a 62 plate D3 R Design

Will I notice much difference between the two ? The D3 is the 163bhp engine.

Cheers

I should imagine that in everyday drivng there wouldn't be much difference. Only time you will really notice it, is if you mash the loud pedal or tow something pretty heavy.

I've driven the D5 which is 215bhp and it is veeery nice and as you rightly say when you hit the pedal it goes and just keeps going.

I'm not looking to thrash the car about but it is nice to have and I'm not sure if I will get that in the 163 D3.

I think only you can really answer this question. Economy or power.

What I can tell you is the 2400cc D5 engine offers plenty of smooth power but it can drink (especially as I don't think the Volvo service folk have got to the bottom yet of how to keep them running efficiently). My V70 started life giving 36mpg plus but now does 32mpg and then intermittently goes off the boil and does 28mpg and drive like a slug. I do shoot along it is fare to say. And I hope to get to the bottom of the running issue soon. My experience is Service departments, Volvo and specialist, are so far no help!

When it is running right the D5 is supreme.

I've gone for the D5 ! Not overly bothered about economy as it won't be a daily driver. I'm hoping on long weekend runs and trips down to Bournemouth/France I should see a bit better than 35mpg !
