The Volvo selekt warrenty is amongst the best you can get.

I did check and 4yo XC90 in T8 guise are going for around 41K. The lease company are charging you the same as you would pay from a main dealer, freshly serviced with 12 month warrenty and free Volvo assist recovery.

I doubt the lease company would get more than £35,000 if you didn’t buy it. Is there no wiggle room with them.

Personally I wouldn't run a vehicle of this complexity without some form of warranty.

When things go wrong the bills can get very expensive, very quickly.

Yeah, I kind of agree, but by March 2022 it will be worth maybe 15k. So my maximum potential loss should be no more than that. If I buy a new XC90 I will be paying close to that in the first year in depreciation, then of course years 2 and 3 depreciation too. If I can keep mine going til 2025 it should save me a boat load of cash.

I guess the issue comes when you have a 2k bill and pay it, then another 2k bill comes along 3 months later which you pay because you paid 2k 3 months ago which you don't want to waste, then something else goes wrong and you haven't the time to go car shopping, so you pay that too..... Very soon you are 6k in a hole and don't want to let go as the car owes you too much.

I would have to dosagree with you there Philip, the car purchaser is looking to spend £41,000 and not £15,000.

The real complexity, and real trouble with the T8 as a used buy, is the T6….

80BHp less, 0-60 an extra second (the T6 is incredibly fast!) and all without the ERAD issues. Of course if you are driving 20mile trips each way the T8 will maybe cost a fraction to run where the T6 will be inefficient. However…. For normal driving I would expect lass than a 20% fuel premium. That’s less than a tenner a week for some.

£41,000 would buy an excellent T6.

When the B5s were been released I was been offered brand new D5 for only £48,000 with extras in them.

Indeed they are. However I was responding to techwatcher who was responding to me saying I didn't know what to do with my car in March 2022.....

That’s fair enough thanks.

If you are selling it at that point for that price I am interested. Could I have first dibs (not joking).

Not saying I will 100% but it but if it’s clean and reliable I am certainly interested!

And it's already had the ERAD replaced!

I’m still curious as to whether there was a certain year that Volvo had permanently fixed the erad known fault.

Or whether they are all like that, forever ..!

I think it most likely that I will keep it, but will give you first refusal if I do decide to sell.

Have you considered leasing a car for the next 4 years. Dead money I know but yours at 8 years will be worth not much. Aldo you get 3 years warranty. Peace of mind. Take out a service plan if possible? Look at pcp Do the maths and see if £41k for your current 4 year old car is the best route to go. Doing 8,000 miles a year …..is this all short journeys. If not then a hybrid makes no sense. Just a few thoughts. BIK doesn’t come into it as it’s a private car.
