Default 2015 5 cyl diesel jump start question

Hi,
The manual says not to connect the negative jump lead to the battery direct when jump starting, but to use the chassis earth instead.
Can anyone tell me why that is so?
Many thanks

It'll likely have a sensor attached to the battery terminal which could be damaged by jump starting direct to the terminals.
A lot of manufacturers now purposefully make the negative terminal difficult to access.
From a safety point of view if you make the last connection to engine or chassis earth (there'll usually be a spark) then there's less chance of battery gasses exploding!

So that the Battery Condition Monitor is in the circuit I believe. Connecting the negative direct to the battery effectively bypasses it
