That is not an angle gear repair kit, it is a spline sleeve repair kit. The angle gear often fails too and will go eventually. There is no repair kit for it and you have to buy a new, used or reconditioned one at a price of about £1500!

That does seem odd about the grease. Maybe check with another Volvo dealer?

The grease is just for the splines and priming the seals, it's not a critical lubricating fluid so I would just use whatever grease you have.

Bear in mind that Volvo UK will contribute to the repair of a spline sleeve and/or angle gear failure. This applies outside of warranty and is mileage dependent. There is a sliding scale. I think above 80k you get get pretty much nothing, but well worth looking into if you are 75k or less. Under 50k and you get an 80% contribution. 50 - 75k gets you 40%. Of course that means paying their labour charges, but you don't really want an Indie trying this one for the first time. I know some of the lads here have done it themselves.

What's involved in replacing the splined sleeve?
