V50 Wheels/Tyres : Will S80 wheels fit?

I just picked up a 2011 V50 T5, and I'm loving it. I moved over from an '01 S80 so the difference is night and day.

However, the car came with after market black rims and Pirelli tires. 1) I don't like black rims and 2) I don't like Pirellis - they ride rough and loud, so I'm thinking of hitting the junkyards to get some original wheels, but I can only find S80s.

Here's the question...

S80s are spec'd at 7x17 ET52.5 wheels that take 225/50 R17 tires. The V50 takes 7.5x17 ET49 wheels and 205/50 R17 tires.

Will 7.5x17's with 225/50s fit on the V50 or will it be too cramped in the wheel well?

If you want a 17" alloy on the V50 T5 with the correct tyres to match, you need 205/50R17 tyres on a 7Jx17 rim with ET52.5 offset.

The only alloy you can have on a V50 T5 with 225 diameter tyre is 18" (8J, ET48 offset) - 225/40/18 tyres.

For a 7.5J rim, you need an 18" alloy with 215/45/18 tyres on the V50 T5.

The ones you're looking at won't fit. The aspect ratio is too high, the rim width is wrong and so is the offset.

That's funny. I'll have to tell my V50 that unfortunately it can no longer keep running with the 225/45/17 Michelins I have on a set of 7.5J rims from a Ford Mondeo with ET50. There is zero rubbing.

Kind of sucks since the speedo readout is almost perfectly synced to GPS speed readout now.

Thanks for the confirmation! I figured they'd be OK since I can look at the S80 side by side with the V50 and clearances look and measure the same. I just wanted to make sure there was no offset issues.

Just make sure the centre bore in the rims you want to fit is 63.5 mm. If bigger, use an adapter to get it down to size.

Its good to hear that they fit, but it won’t drive the same as having the OE spec. Oh, the speedo would be closer to being synced too.

My winter tyres are OE spec and the correct size is shown in Vida. Yet the speedo shows about 5 km/h slower than I'm driving. It's still within the 10% margin allowed and just something to remember.

Although the summer tyres aren't OE spec, the car handles just fine. So claiming that it won't work is just being pedantic, in my opinion.

There's nothing pedantic about it. I had 18" aftermarket wheels on my car when I bought it... the handling was awful, nor did it ride as it should. I changed them for 17" OE spec alloys with tyres to match and the difference was remarkable.

Manufacturer's specify the alloy to use and the tyre size for a reason (braking, weight and so on). What makes any of us think we know better than them? Millions spent on development... "Ahh, I don't like those wheels, I'll chuck whatever I want on it". You can't just stick any wheels you want on, not in this country anyway. Its classed as a modification and the insurer should be notified (might be different where you are or in USA where the original poster is). That's not being pedantic either, that's the truth. If there's an accident, that's when all this stuff comes into play. People forget that though. Whether that applies in other countries, I don't know.

The OP asked if tyres would fit. The answer turned out to be yes, but are they right, as in the correct spec for the car? The answer is no. Its his car, he can do as he pleases (as can you). I'm just making a point from a spec point of view that they aren't correct. Seems odd to me to buy a lovely T5 motor and stick the wrong alloys/tyres on it, but hey... that's not my call.
