That does look period correct - almost!

The seats are how they should be! Lovely colour that blue interior. The rear seatbelts are an addition from a later model and probably the reason the carpet trim in the boot is missing one side and distorted the other side. The metal panel covering the spare wheel is missing. The front passenger door window winder is missing. It is stated that the B20 engine has twin carbs - if they are original it should be badged as 145S. The description lists it as 145, which indicated single carb and the wing badges are 145. Chances are the twin carbs - if fitted - are a later addition to cope with the auto box.

The front end doesn't look 'quite right'. The grille is the correct one piece chrome with the B20 badge. The bumper is damaged, due to the accident, and being cast ali, is difficult to reform to the correct profile. The nearside indicator light, doesn't look as if it is fitted to the wing correctly. The chrome trim along the front edge of the bonnet is missing. The wheels, although correct, should be painted silver.

All minor niggles and does look good, but would need further work to get it up to original spec. Well worth a look and if as good as the photo's suggest, a nice example.

👍👍 yes absolutely, P’Boro is probably nearer to me here than my actual home, trouble is better half might not look too favourably on a diversion on the way home tomorrow.

Plan is hopefully to view perhaps Tuesday, and worry about logistics afterwards😀😀

Photos on FB not that great, but I’m smitten, certainly appears to have had paint so any critical observations from the photos would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi ITSv40,

Many many thanks, just what I need, a reasoned eye that actually knows what a correct one should look like.

I shall report in due course👍👍

Cheers

No problem, I have just realised next month it is 50 years since I had my first Volvo a 145S. so smitten by it I have had Volvos ever since!

Having looked at the photos again: the exhaust isn't correct - it should be a single pipe coming out the back and side at about a 30 - 45 degree angle from the centre line. The rear wiper arm is missing and I cannot see the Volvo badge on the rear door.

Obviously when you go to view you will be able to assess the general condition and check the history file etc. However, what worries me about these types of adverts is that it is advertised as restored. Now in my book a restored car offered for sale should be completely restored and not have things left to do or missing - this quite clearly still needs work to finish.

Now there can be two main reasons for this: the restoration work done to date has been done to a high standard and circumstances changed and the little things are still to do. Or the 'restoration' has been ' a tarting up exercise' to make it more saleable. Only a physical inspection can determine the case here, but I do wonder what that nice shiny paint is covering.

I hope I am not coming across as negative, as that is not the intention. I am just pointing out things that need to be considered when viewing. I do hope it stands up to scrutiny and is as good and genuine as it appears to be. Good luck.

Once again, many many thanks, and don’t worry about any negative comments, those are probably the most important ones👍

Ideally I’d find an original unmolested 145s for perhaps £5-8k driveable for a year or so, but with a full back to bare metal restoration in mind.

However after a couple of years of looking, and two wasted journeys down south, it does focus the mind somewhat😀😀

Cheers

If you were to travel to a viewing, I would bring a fridge magnet.
It would be weak enough to attach to metal and not filler.

Hi Bob,

Yes a great point, always wondered about the general consensus of viewing etiquette using a magnet. Use with some protective fabric between paint?

I do fear the point made by ITSv40 on what the shiny paint is covering

Cheers

Totally unscientific opinion: It looks too good to be a bodge job!🧐

There’s an honesty about it!🤔
