Default unleaded fuel

ann I have a Volvo 340 D reg automatic. I have been advised by my local Volvo dealer that it will be ok to use super unleaded fuel when 4 star is phased out? Is this correct? Can anyone advise me? thanks

If I remember correctly, if yours is a 1987 model it can be run on ordinary unleaded (but may need a timing adjustment)or superunleaded or LRP without modification. If it is a 1986 model, I think you'll have to stick to superunleaded or LRP.

Yep, that's correct, check the chassis number of your car. It should be XLB34....then a letter, if the letter is H, then you can use ordinary unleaded.

This is very interesting, thanks.
Unfortunately I have a problem in that my mothers E plate 1.7 340 has had an engine replacement and I dont know the age of the one now in it.

Can anyone tell from the engine number or do I need to contact Volvo to find out ?

For the record, the old engine number was a B170***** number but the current V5 and invoice for the replacement says CO-83-118 ( I cant look at the car itself as its away for the week, but that doesnt look like a correct number to me )

ta for any info if anybody has knowledge on the subject
